Current information on events

taking into account the prevention of infection with COVID-19

The Society of Friends of Music in Vienna must take the following measures for events due to official requirements:

  • Concert attendance is only possible if tested, vaccinated or recovered. The validity periods set by the federal government apply:
    - Antigen test for self-testing with recording in the official data processing system up to 24 hours after sample collection
    - antigen test by an authorized body up to 48 hours after sample collection
    - molecular biological test by an authorized body up to 72 hours after sample collection

    - up to 6 months after recovery and
    - 3 months extension by antibody detection
Please bring appropriate proof for each visitor to the concert. On-site testing is not possible.
  • If you are planning to attend a concert with children, please note the regulations regarding attending a concert with children.
  • Wearing a FFP2 mask is required upon entering the Musikverein building until you leave it again. It is not allowed to remove the mask during the concert in the hall.
  • Keeping an appropriate distance to other people must be ensured in the foyer, in front of the cloakrooms and in bathrooms.
  • Instructions of the ushers must be followed.
  • Passing on concert tickets is not permitted.
  • A change of seat is not permitted, except when requested by the staff.
  • Standing room tickets cannot be offered. Customers who are in possession of tickets with the imprint "Freie Platzwahl" will be assigned fixed seats upon entering the hall.
  • The Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde is obliged to pass on customer data to the authorities upon request should a corona infection occur.
  • When participating in the concert, ticket buyers agree to provide the names and contact details of their accompanying persons as requested by the authorities.
  • The seating arrangement in the halls stipulates that a lateral distance of at least 1 seat lateral from another group of visitors must be guaranteed.
  • Concert tickets purchased anonymously are no longer valid but can be exchanged for personalized tickets free of charge at the box-office.
  • We ask you to refrain from going to the concert if you have symptoms of illness.

How does the concert visit work?

  • Admission to the building and the concert hall is 45 minutes before the start of the concert.
  • Our cloakrooms are open for you and are available free of charge.
  • The concerts will take place without a break in order to avoid large crowds.
  • After the end of the concert, we ask you to leave the building right away.

Information for subscribers

You can find more information about the changes for our subscribers here.

  • Due to the special circumstances we are unfortunately unable to offer you our commission service. Instead, subscribers can cancel their tickets up to 14 days before the concert date without any deductions. Cancellation is possible after written notification (e-mail or letter) or in person at the box office.
  • After the above-mentioned return option has expired, the seating plans of each concert will be checked for compliance with the distance regulation. We will contact those customers who need to change their seat separately.
  • We will announce any program changes separately on our website and by e-mail.
  • As usual, the box-office is open one hour before the start of the event.

Information on ticketsale

Information on the ticket sales process and the related changes can be found here.

  • The start of advance booking is regulated individually from concert to concert and depends on the booking situation through subscriptions and programmatic decisions.
  • In many cases, advance booking will start later than usual, but as early as possible.
  • You can still be reminded of the start of advance booking for the individual concerts via our website and will be informed by e-mail on the first day of advance booking.
  • If the booking situation allows this through subscriptions, tickets can be booked directly on the homepage at the beginning of the presale.
  • There is a possibility that no tickets are available at the start of advance booking, but we expect tickets to become available. For those concerts it will be possible to put your ticket request on the online waiting list.

Visiting a concert with children

For more information on the requirements regarding attending a concert with children, click here.

  • Obligation to wear a mask
    - Children up to the age of 6 are not required to wear a mask, but may of course do so voluntarily.
    - Children between the age of 6 and 14 must wear a tight-fitting mechanical protective device covering the mouth and nose area ("mouth/nose protection") during their entire stay at the Musikverein.
    - Children over the age of 14 must wear an FFP2 mask at all times while at the Musikverein.
  • Tested/Cured
    - Children up to the age of 6 do not have to provide proof that they have been tested or have recovered. They may, of course, still be tested voluntarily and we recommend that they do so. Please note that on-site testing is not available.
    - Children over the age of 6 must present a negative test result or a survived COVID infection at the music club. The officially established validity periods for tested and recovered individuals apply. Please bring appropriate proof for yourself and your children to the concert visit, testing on site is not possible.

The requirement to provide proof of negative testing/recovery from the age of 6 is a further self-imposed safety measure in relation to the regulation, in order to make the concert visit as safe as possible for you and your children.

  • Proof of age
    - The age of children and young people must be proven in a suitable form when entering the Musikverein building (e-card, mother-child passport, passport, etc.).
  • Visitor groups
    - Adults, children and families who belong together may sit next to each other in the concert as a group of 4 adults plus a maximum of 6 underage children.
    - A space will be left free on the side between each group of visitors.
    - The concert tickets include assigned seats; changing seats is not permitted except upon request by our audience service.

Please ensure that you and your children observe hygiene etiquette and keep a safe distance from other concert-goers.
