The Musikverein can be reached using the following public transport options:

Subway:

  • U1, U2, U4 to Karlsplatz station

Tram:

  • Lines 1 or D to Kärntner Ring station,
  • Lines 2 or 62 to Opernring station,
  • Line 71 to Schwarzenbergplatz

Bus:

  • Lines 59A or 3A to Kärntner Ring station,
  • Line 4A to Karlsplatz station

WienerLokalbahnen railway (Badner Bahn) to Kärntner Ring final stop

Please note that tickets must be purchased from ticket machines or the ticket offices of Wiener Linien and stamped in the machines available before using the public transportation system in Vienna. Entry tickets for our events do not entitle the holders to make free use of public transport.

Parking options

Parking on public roads:

Please note that the entire First District of Vienna together with the adjoining Districts are short-term parking zones, for which the following conditions apply:

  • Parking fees apply: Monday to Friday, 9:00 - 22:00 
  • max. parking duration: 2 hours

Please note:

Sections of Bösendorferstraße are reserved for residents only. These may only be used by vehicles with a parking permit for the First District and vehicles displaying a disabled badge in accordance with Para. 29b of the Austrian Road Traffic Regulations. In both these cases, no additional costs are incurred.

  • Kärntnerstraße Tiefgarage, Kärntner Straße 51/ next to the Vienna State Opera

Information for wheelchair users

Wheechair-accessible entry is located to the right of the main entrance.  

The Musikverein has three wheelchair-accessible toilets in the 2nd Foyer (on the 2nd Basement Level), to the right of the main entrance and adjacent to the left balcony boxes.

Wheelchair users are invited to make use of a parking option in Bösendorferstraße adjacent to  Künstlerhaus as well as the residents’ parking places in Bösendorferstraße.

Dress code

Music in the Musikverein is always a special experience. The musicians themselves highlight this by wearing clothing for special occasions. Men usually sport white tie and tailcoat or morning suits for performances earlier in the day. Our audiences, in contrast, are free to exercise greater choice. There is no dress code - guests may wear what they wish to make their visit comfortable and enjoyable. Nonetheless, many of our visitors sense that a certain elegance is suited to the ambience of the Musikverein. For this reason we welcome and request that visitors dress accordingly. Please note that shorts are not regarded as suitable clothing. Our premises are temperature-controlled throughout and remain pleasantly cool indoors throughout the summer.

Cloakroom

For security reasons, coats, bags, rucksacks, umbrellas and folding chairs may not be taken inside the concert halls – this also applies in the case of standing places. The Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde reserves the right to charge a cloakroom fee for the care of your clothing or other items during your visit.

Entrance times

The Musikverein building opens to the public 60 minutes before performances begin. Entry to the concert hall is permitted 30 minutes before the concert starts. Please note that once a performance is underway, entry for those arriving late  will only be permitted during intervals or possibly during a break for applause. Entry to the concert hall is not permitted during breaks between movements. This regulation also applies to boxes in the ground floor and balcony areas and to standing room places.

Video and/or audio recordings

These are strictly forbidden, unless granted specific approval, before,  during and after performances on grounds of copyright. In the case of television or film recordings, visitors consent to the normal commercial exploitation of recordings made during the performance (photography, film, video) without any entitlement to remuneration.

Telephones

The use of mobile phones and other personal electronic devices is strictly forbidden in all areas of the Musikverein building. A coin-operated telephone for public use is located next to the artists’ entrance on the left behind the porter’s office.

Programmes

Printed programmes can be purchased from ticket ushers in the Musikverein before performances. Should you require a programme after the respective event has finished, these may be picked up at the box office after asking for it on the phone beforehand.

This offer remains open while stocks last. Only the price of programme has to be paid for the copy.

Refreshments

Refreshments in the Musikverein, before, during and after events, are provided exclusively by Gerstner Catering. The buffet in the Erste Bank Foyer opens 1 hour before events begin. A comprehensive range of refreshments is available in the Gottfried von Einem Saal on the First Floor. Alongside the bars to the left and right of the ground floor standing area, bars at the gallery level are also available if required. Refreshments can also be pre-ordered from Gerstner to avoid waiting times during intervals.
