Wunderwelt Orchester

The moderated orchestral concert by the Vienna Symphony Orchestra takes us to the sea and washes the elemental force of water into the Golden Hall of the Musikverein. At times gentle, wild, calm, and fiery – the sea has always been a great source of inspiration for orchestral, film and pop music. And when presenter Sebastian Radon raises his voice with the whole audience, the music rolls over us like a tremendous refreshing wave …

Backstage | Onstage

What kind of people are those who are driven by their great love of music? Who puts themselves in the spotlight every day and endures stage fright? Conductors, soloists and orchestral musicians talk about their lives in artist interviews. They answer questions, talk about their extraordinary everyday lives, their journeys and, of course, about the music. After the talk, the young people can see for themselves at an exclusive open dress rehearsal of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, the ORF Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra and the Tonkünstler Orchestra of Lower Austria. Teachers are provided with introductions to the works to prepare for the visit to the event in class.

For grades 9 to 13 (upper secondary level)
Duration approx. 2 hours (without break)
Pupils free of charge (registration required from 11.9.2025)

Archiv macht Schule

The Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde in Wien and its home, the Musikverein, have written music history: it was in contact with Ludwig van Beethoven, Johannes Brahms was “artistic director”, Anton Bruckner taught here, Gustav Mahler conducted, and Johann Strauss held his concerts. Archive director Johannes Prominczel takes one school class at a time on interactive forays, drawing on one of the world’s five largest private music collections. Using original music manuscripts and unique objects from the archive, everyday musical life between “Eroica”, Romanticism and waltzes in 19th-century Vienna is brought to life.

For grades 9 to 13 (upper secondary level)
Duration approx. 50 minutes
Pupils 6 euros (registration required from 2.9.2025)

The Power of Music

A collaborative music programme for primary school children from Vienna’s 10th district by Musikverein Wien and CAPE 10 with the support of Wien Energie

Every child has the right to happiness, opportunities, support and participation!

In the 2024/25 season, the Musikverein and CAPE 10 have entered into a multi-year partnership under the patronage of world star Elīna Garanča, in which 400 primary school children from so-called “hotspot schools” in the 10th district are provided with intensive free musical activities every school year. This includes implementing concert programmes by the Musikverein, such as “Albertos Abenteuer” and the “ECHO Rising Stars” at the Musikverein and CAPE 10. In workshops, the teachers learn how music can be integrated into everyday school life. In a big Christmas concert in the Golden Hall of the Musikverein, children, teachers and parents can enjoy music together and play an active role in shaping the concert. At the heart of this project is a common goal: to awaken the joy of art and creativity and to promote cultural education in the long term.
