Concerts for children, teenagers and families
2023/24 | 2024/25
At the Musikverein, children, young people, and families have been enjoying a diverse program for over 30 years. Our carefully curated concerts are uniquely crafted in collaboration with selected artists, tailored specifically for our venue and young audience. Each concert series comes with an age recommendation, ensuring it is enjoyable and appropriate for each age group. Participation through dancing, singing and making music is a core element of every concert, as we believe musical development thrives through active engagement.

Dodo und Tatz
When Dodo and Tatz invite you, there is something in store for the ears! To endearing stories with live music from different genres, young and old visitors can move freely in the room during the concert, plunge into the middle of the action or watch comfortably from afar. Singing under guidance, moving together to the music or just sitting, listening and marvelling – almost anything is allowed at our music playground.

Topolina
Alberto and the musical mouse Topolina, experience miniature musical adventures in the colourful everyday life of mice. The mouse girl with the pink ribbon on her head travelled from Italy to Vienna many years ago in a box of lettuce. Making music, dancing, and singing are still a lot of fun for her – mainly when she is actively supported by the musicians and you, dear children. A presto!

Sebastian und das Tontelefon
“Hello, children. Do you already know the famous telephone, the sound telephone?” With catchy songs on their lips and mischievousness on their necks, the two friends, sound researcher Sebastian and inventor Dr Willy Witzwurm, embark on adventurous trips to the land of music. And again, the tuning fork, the legendary sound telephone, is a great help to them – because singing is the best way to make new friends and immerse yourself in infinite worlds of sound. “Sebastian and the Sound Telephone” is nominated for the STELLA*23 in the “Outstanding Music” category. The STELLA Performing Arts Prize is the first nationwide prize for outstanding achievements in theatre for young audiences and has been awarded annually in Austria since 2007.

Agathes Wunderkoffer
Agathe looks up at the sky in fascination. How bright the stars glitter! She would like to touch the small sparkling dots, but as much as she stretches, she cannot reach them. So be it! If we can’t go to the stars, we must just bring them down to us – with music. So Agathe embarks on a fantastic musical star journey with young and old and all kinds of instruments. Of course, the Magic Suitcase is there again, so we are amazed at what is hidden inside it this time.

Allegretto
“Allegretto”, the classic of our children’s concerts, has brought great musical stories for the whole family to the stage of the historic Brahms Hall for more than 30 years. Four productions are on the programme: With “Good Day, Johannes Brahms!”, Marko Simsa follows in the composer’s footsteps, who gave our concert hall its name. In “The Darned Christmas Order”, spring fairy Pippa Galli suddenly has to play the role of Christmas fairy. Fortunately, the Neue Wiener Concert Schrammeln is at her side with advice and music. “Where to?” ask the three musicians and singer-songwriters Nina Kazourian, Golnar Shahyar and Marie Spaemann when they powerfully tell their stories. And finally, with “The Princess” by Shabnam Chamani, we hear the fairy tale that Arnold Schönberg invented for his own children. In addition, impressive worlds of images are created in real-time!

Flashlight Tours
The long-serving hall master Robert “Effi” Effenberger, a descendant of the legendary Rudolf Effenberger, will guide you through the quiet and abandoned Musikverein building. Performance in German. “Quiet? Leave? Reigning baton times! Someone wanders through the venerable house and stirs up Effi’s meticulously planned lectures. Notennerkuckuckswetter … This is outrageous, outrageous, who dares? Effi wants clarity – so, pull out flashlights and off we go! Holy music stand, who is it?”

Three concerts for a young and grown-up, but above all, curious audience which open up unique musical worlds. The motto is: anything but ordinary! The Wiener Symphoniker, our Singverein and presenter Marko Simsa, will open the concert series with “Welcome Christmas”, an enchanting Christmas concert for the whole family in the Golden Hall. In “The Little Prince”, the artists of Pool of Invention resurrect the famous fairy tale by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry – to powerful original compositions and the fascinating pictures of a sand painter. And in “Heroes”, spoken word poet Yasmin Hafedh, known as Yasmo, leads through a concert program dedicated to heroines and heroes of then and now with artistic moderation and her songs. Flip Philipp, a percussionist of the Wiener Symphoniker, plays with his musical guests across genres, from classical to film music to pop.
