Gesucht: der „ganze Beethoven“

Zum Ausklang des Beethoven-Jahres 2020

Das Musikvereinsprogramm im Dezember präsentiert den Jahresregenten Beethoven noch einmal in all seinen Facetten. Thomas Leibnitz zeichnet ein Bild des „ganzen Beethoven“. 

Über den Sinn von Komponistenjubiläen, über die Emphase, mit der ein „Mozart-Jahr“, ein „Bach-Jahr“ oder auch ein „Beethoven-Jahr“ ausgerufen wird, kann man geteilter Meinung sein. Wird die Musik Bachs durch ein Bach-Jahr wertvoller, berührt uns Beethoven im Beethoven-Jahr intensiver? Wohl kaum, und es wäre auch traurig, würde die Qualität der Begegnung mit schöpferischen Persönlichkeiten der Vergangenheit von Zufallsdaten abhängen, wie dies Geburts- und Sterbejahre nun einmal sind. Aber darum geht es wohl nicht vorrangig. Das Jubiläumsjahr, so wenig es als solches substanziell mit dem Gefeierten zu tun hat, gibt Gelegenheit zu umfassender Beschäftigung mit einem außergewöhnlichen Menschen in all seinen Facetten. Dies klingt uns geläufig, ist es aber nicht: Denn immer wieder neigen wir dazu, uns mit Klischeevorstellungen und Schlagworten zu begnügen, auch in der Begegnung mit dem Werk, wo einige (fraglos hervorragende) Kompositionen die Szene beherrschen und sehr viel im Schatten der Nichtbeachtung verharrt.
