In autumn 1996 the Brahms-Saal received an addition. After extensive renovation the former chamber hall was newly opened as the “Gottfried-von-Einem-Saal”. The society of music lovers thereby paid homage to a composer who had been closely connected with the Musikverein in a similar way to Brahms.
Many of the numerous works of Gottfried von Einem (1918-1996) received their first performances at the Musikverein and, like Brahms, he left an extensive collection of musical scores, books and letters to the archives of the Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde.
The Gottfried-von-Einem-Saal is the smallest of the halls in the Musikverein. It is a room which can be flexibly adapted to a variety of purposes. It offers space for smaller concerts and lectures, serves as a rehearsal room and, when necessary, transforms itself into the production room for the ever more frequent recordings at the Musikverein.
And since it also reflects the brilliance of the building, it is the perfect setting for receptions and presentations.
